About MacGameTorrent
I teach maths at a secondary school in Hamburg, and on Thursday afternoons I run the school's game club. Every term the same question comes up from students and, increasingly, from their parents: "Will this game work on our Mac?" I got tired of answering it from memory, so I started writing the answers down. MacGameTorrent is the result: one shelf of Mac games, kept tidy.
Before a game goes on the shelf, I look at it on an iMac in the staff room after lessons. That does not make me an expert on every Mac ever built, but it does mean the pages are written by someone who has actually opened the games rather than copied a box description.
How a page is organized
Each game has its own page with the same basic information in the same place: the current version, the size of the download, the macOS version it needs and whether it runs on Apple silicon, on Intel or on both. If there are install notes worth knowing, they are on the page too. I like consistency; it is a teacher's habit, and it makes pages easier to compare.
When a game is updated, the page follows the new version. Older versions stay available when they still help someone, for example a family whose older iMac cannot move to a newer macOS.
More than games
Most of the catalog is games, but there are also sections for Mac Apps, Office tools, Video, Utilities, Emulators, VST Plugins and macOS itself. Some of those apps earned their place in my classroom long before they earned a page here.
Joining in
You do not need an account to read anything. With a free account you can save games to your favorites, see a notice on the site when one of them is updated, and write comments. I read each comment before it is published, so for a short while yours will show as awaiting moderation. Comments from parents and players about how a game behaved at home are some of the most helpful things on the site.
If you spot an error or want to suggest a game, please use the contact page.
