Nuclear Throne: example 1

Nuclear Throne runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, no special setup needed. This is a post-apocalyptic top-down roguelike shooter from Vlambeer, released on December 5, 2015. The world is empty of humans; mutants and monsters are all that remain.

A roguelike shooter where death means starting over

It is a roguelike-like shooter. You move through levels, fight enemies, and collect radiation. When you die, you start over with a new run.

How many characters can I play as?

The game has 12 playable characters, each with a different starting weapon or ability. You unlock more as you play.

What do mutations do?

Radiation you collect can trigger mutations. There are about thirty mutation options, and they improve your character in different ways during a run.

A typical run from start to finish

You pick a character — Fish can roll, Crystal has extra health, and each one changes how you play. The game drops you into a procedurally generated level full of mutants and monsters. Your goal is to reach the portal at the end. Along the way you collect weapons from fallen enemies or crates: over 100 types, from revolvers to energy cannons and crossbows. When you kill enough enemies and collect radiation, you choose a mutation from the pool that appears between levels. The mutations stack, so by world four you might have faster reloading, extra ammo and a shield that triggers when you get hit.

The seven main worlds each have a different theme: desert, sewers, frozen city, and others. Every run is a new layout and a different weapon combination. When you die, and you will die, the run ends and you start fresh with nothing but your starting gear and whatever character you choose.

Faster and steeper than Enter the Gungeon

If you have played Enter the Gungeon, you will notice Nuclear Throne moves faster. You do not dodge-roll through rooms; you move and shoot in short bursts and reposition constantly. The runs are shorter and the difficulty feels steeper from the start. The Binding of Isaac trades shooting for a heavier focus on item combinations and room clearing. Nuclear Throne pushes you to keep moving, keep shooting, and think about positioning every moment. Where Isaac rewards patient exploration, Nuclear Throne rewards fast reactions and quick decisions.

Risk of Rain 2 is third-person and three-dimensional, so the comparison is looser. But all three games share a roguelike structure: random loot, permanent death, and runs that never repeat. Nuclear Throne stays closer to the arcade side of that family.

Works offline on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs

The game runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The current build is version 100r7s. It requires no activation or online check — it works offline. The audio is music by Yukiyo Callio and sound effects by Jonas Turner, so you get a clean soundtrack and clear feedback for each weapon and enemy. The game supports English language only. Local network co-op is available if you want to play with someone on the same network. For a nuclear throne mac torrent, this build is straightforward to get running and does not need extra configuration.

Yes, local network co-op is supported. You and a friend can survive the wasteland together.

Questions I keep getting

Does Nuclear Throne support co-op?

Yes, it supports local network co-op so you can play with a friend on the same network.
