Ghost Buster Pro 6.2.0 arrives with a new app icon for macOS 27. The core job stays the same: it hunts down files left behind by apps you have already removed. Support files, preferences, caches — the small clutter that sticks around.
Scan by folder or drive
You can point Ghost Buster Pro at a specific folder or your whole system drive. This lets you check a second drive or a shared network folder for leftovers without scanning everything.
Review results before deleting
Each found item shows its path and size. You can pick individual files to remove or let the app delete everything with one click. I like checking the list first to avoid removing something another app still uses.
Keep a snapshot of installed apps
The app can save a list of your current applications. Run a scan later and compare the new list to the snapshot. Any leftover files from removed apps show up immediately.
Wait a week before your first scan
The most common slip I see is running a scan right after installing Ghost Buster Pro, before any apps have been removed. The app finds nothing and people think it isn't working. Give it a week or two of normal use, then scan. You will see a real difference.
Another mistake is deleting everything without reviewing the list. Ghost Buster Pro shows each leftover file with its path and size, but beginners sometimes click the one-click delete without scanning the items first. A preferences file from an old game might still be read by a newer version of the same game. I recommend checking the file paths before you confirm. If you see a name you do not recognize, leave it and see if anything breaks later.
Some users also forget to update the app snapshot. Ghost Buster Pro can save a list of your current applications, but that list only helps if you update it when you install new software. If you take a snapshot once and never refresh it, the comparison becomes less useful over time. I set a reminder to update the snapshot every few months or after a big app install spree.
It catches leftovers after you drag an app to the Trash
Ghost Buster Pro works alongside the standard macOS uninstall process. Dragging an app to the Trash removes the main program but leaves support files, preferences, and caches behind. That is where Ghost Buster Pro steps in. Run it after you empty the Trash and it catches what macOS left behind.
You can use it together with App Cleaner or similar tools if you prefer. App Cleaner catches files at the moment of uninstall, while Ghost Buster Pro finds leftovers from past removals. The two approaches complement each other well.
Ghost Buster Pro also pairs naturally with Time Machine backups. Before you delete a batch of leftover files, you might want to take a quick snapshot with Time Machine. If an app later needs a file you removed, you can restore it from the backup. I do this before cleaning up old development tools or apps I rarely use.
For users who manage multiple Macs, Ghost Buster Pro can scan external drives and network folders. You can plug in an old backup drive and check it for leftover files from apps you installed years ago. The scan respects the drive's folder structure, so you only remove what belongs to apps you already deleted.
The icon changed but the interface stayed the same
Version 6.2.0 introduced a new app icon designed for macOS 27. The interface itself looks familiar, so returning users will not need to relearn anything. The search engine and file detection logic remain the same reliable system from earlier versions.
The update also added support for the latest macOS architecture, both ARM and x86-64. That means Ghost Buster Pro runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs and Intel Macs without translation layers. Users on older Intel hardware will not notice a difference in how the app behaves.
Ghost Buster Pro now supports Family Sharing, which is helpful if you manage multiple Macs in a household. Each person can run their own scans on their own Mac without buying another copy.
The language options expanded to include Russian, Korean, Polish, and French alongside the existing English, German, Spanish, Italian, and Simplified Chinese. If you teach in a multilingual school or help friends in different countries, this makes recommending the app easier.
