RightFont: example 1

You are in the middle of a layout, and the client asks for a different headline font. Instead of opening a separate font utility, you double-click the text layer in your design app, and RightFont steps in to show you the installed typefaces. That is the kind of workflow this Mac font manager is built for.

Import progress now shows unsupported files

The current release focuses on polish. Importing fonts is more reliable, and the progress window now shows a finalization stage plus a count of unsupported files, so you know exactly where things stand. Tag management got attention too: subtags can be dragged back to the main Tags section, which keeps your library tidy. The update also fixes issues in Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and macOS 27.

Search-as-you-type and menu bar access remain

The core features remain. Search results appear as you type, filters by classification, width, and weight narrow things down, and font lists give you a way to group typefaces for projects. Menu bar access means you can manage fonts without leaving your current app. RightFont is made exclusively for Mac and requires macOS 11 or newer.

Using RightFont in a workflow

  1. Create a font list for the project you are working on.
  2. Filter by classification or weight to find the right family.
  3. Double-click a text layer in your design software to switch the font directly.

Art teacher uses font lists for client branding

I teach maths, but I see this with the art teacher who borrows the game club room after hours. She works on branding for small local shops. Before RightFont, she kept them in a folder named “client fonts” and installed them one by one through the system font book. That meant restarting her design apps each time.

With RightFont, she creates a font list per client. When a new project comes in, she drags the fonts into that list, activates them through the menu bar, and they appear in her Adobe software without a restart. When the project is done, she deactivates the whole list with one click. The fonts stay on her drive, ready for the next revision but not cluttering her system.

Designers who manage many typefaces benefit most

Designers who work with many typefaces are the obvious fit. The combination of font lists, filters, and direct access from design apps removes a lot of small interruptions. But I also see it being useful for anyone who manages fonts for a small team. If you are the person who installs fonts on a shared office Mac, you can organize them by department or project and avoid the “I cannot find the font” messages.

Typographers and type designers themselves benefit too. RightFont’s tag system and import progress details make it easier to test new fonts in stages, see which ones fail to import, and keep a clean working library.

For the teacher in me, it is also a good tool for students in media design courses. They learn to keep their font collections organized from the start instead of piling everything into the system font folder.

Will it slow down my Mac?

Will it slow down my Mac?
RightFont is described as lightweight. It runs in the menu bar and activates fonts only when you need them. It does not pre-load your entire collection at startup, so the impact on system performance is minimal.

Can I use it with my existing font collection?
Yes. It imports your fonts without moving them from their current location. You can then organize them into lists and tags. The import process now shows clearer progress, including a count of unsupported files, so you know which fonts were skipped.

Do I need to be online to use it?
No. RightFont manages local fonts on your Mac. There is no cloud dependency for basic use.

Double-clicking a text layer in these apps lets you change the font through RightFont. The latest update also fixes an issue with Adobe Illustrator and QuarkXPress.

What about font conflicts?
Because you activate fonts per list and deactivate them when done, conflicts are less likely. RightFont keeps your system font folder clean.

That last step is where the tool earns its place. You stay in context, preview the change, and move on.
